Silvia Kramar

Silvia Kramar was born in Milan, Italy, where she studied Latin throughout high school. She later earned a degree in journalism from Boston University and worked in New York City as a foreign correspondent for Italian newspapers, magazines, and television.

Known to her students as Magistra, Ms. Kramar taught Latin to her daughters, through their homeschool years, as well as at Thales Academy in Wake Forest. She loves sharing her passion for the “old language” that helped shape so many modern languages, including English.

In Magistra Kramar’s classroom, Latin is much more than vocabulary and grammar. Her love of Roman history comes alive through stories of everyday life in ancient Rome, quick chariot races, and even a classroom Roman Senate where students try to pass their own laws!

Outside the classroom, Ms. Kramar enjoys reading and writing fiction. Her Christian novel was published three years ago, and she is currently writing a novel about the history of Wake Forest following the departure of Wake Forest College.
