FAQs

What is the typical schedule for a classical The University-Model® education?

Students attend traditional on-campus classes 2-3 days per week. They spend the other days learning off-campus and studying under the supervision of parents, completely guided by the structure of the school program.

What makes the The University-Model® unique?

The University-Model® combines the best attributes of traditional schooling with the best attributes of homeschooling and integrates them into one model. The result is quality, cost-effective, college-ready education that gives parents more time for imparting their own faith and values to their children. How do I know if this is the right type of education for my child?

This style of education is a calling. If God is nudging you and your family and placing a calling on your heart to be more engaged with their education, we encourage you to pray about whether CLA is the right partner for educating your child. We value biblical teaching and allowing students to be challenged in areas they are ready to excel in academically.

What is christian education like in a University-Model® school?

We recognize truth, beauty and excellence in every discipline. The University-Model® is a partnership between parents and the school, with truths from God’s Word integrated into every subject.

Why is parent partnership important in the University-Model®?

Parents have the unique opportunity to disciple their children - to prepare them for life. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 says as parents, in our comings and goings, we are to impress God’s Word upon our children. When our children are exposed to the world, as we know they will be, we want parents to feel called and equipped to point them back to the gospel. Parents play a vital role in educating their children on satellite days so partnership with the school is a necessity.

As a parent, will there be opportunities to be trained in the curriculum to help my child?

Parents are trained throughout the year on how to engage with us in the education process. Instruction is aligned between home and school. University-model schools combine traditional Christian education with homeschooling attributes. Wisdom is valued over knowledge as parents teach their children in collaboration with our teachers.

How do extra curricular activities function within the University Model®?

Community is at the heart of the University-Model®. Student life and extra curricular activities such as arts and athletics play an integral role in the development of students. We aim to offer opportunities for families to engage with each other outside the walls of school but within the confines of a like-minded community.

We are not a homeschooling family, but are in the midst of virtual learning- is this different?

University-Model® education is not homeschooling and it is not virtual learning. CLA is a partnership between the school and the family. The satellite days are not spent in front of a computer with a teacher lecturing. These days are meant for parents to take the lead instructing their children within the structure of the school’s curriculum. The burden of the curriculum does not fall on the parents - the school provides the structure and equips the parents to work alongside the teachers.

My wife and I both work full time outside of our home. Would Commission Leadership Academy work for us?

One of the most important ingredients in the success of the University Model is an available parent who can assist and properly work with the student. For a family in which both parents work outside the home on a full-time (or almost full-time) basis a more traditional 35-40 hours/week school is probably a better choice.

What grades are offered at Commission Leadership Academy?

We offer a full K-12 program at CLA.

What are the campus school days and hours?

Students in levels K-6 will be on campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:15am - 3:15pm, while grades 7-12 will be on campus Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:15am - 3:40pm. Morning carpool will begin at 7:55am for all students.

What are tuition and fees for CLA?

Does CLA accommodate students with special needs?

At CLA, we recognize that God creates all students with different academic, emotional, and physical needs. Due to being a small school with limited resources and limited time on campus , we are not able to meet the needs of all disabilities. Most accommodations take place on satellite days with parents as the co-teacher.

Please note that in order for a student to receive any academic accommodation at CLA, the parent(s)/or guardian(s) must provide professional testing and documentation for a specific learning or physical disability. At this time, we do not have a licensed school psychologist on staff and are not able to provide academic evaluations or testing on campus.

If a student is transferring to CLA with an IEP from a public school, copies of all testing and professional diagnosis must be provided to the Admissions Director upon submitting an application. A meeting will be scheduled with the Learning Specialist, the Grammar, Logic, or Rhetoric Dean, a classroom teacher, and the parent to discuss possible accommodation options at CLA.

Each student and circumstance will be evaluated on an individual basis. As a private school, we do not provide IEPs for our students with disabilities, but will offer reasonable educational and physical accommodations with proper documentation.
